For the past three or so years I've shot exclusively on Nikons pro kit, using the D3, D3X and the D3S. Obviously the kit is quite expensive between £ 4 - 6 k for a body and often over £1.5K for a lens. I hardly ever pick up consumer cameras, if anything catching the odd snap on my iphone.

I was very interested when approached last month by Samsung and asked to test their latest consumer model the EX1.

I follow quite a lot of photography blogs and had heard a few good things about the camera.

The idea was to spend a few nights shooting over London and to form a micro site showing the resulting images and a little VT on the flying.

So here are my first thoughts on the camera.

Its very nicely built, and feels reassuringly heavy in your hand. Great fast 1.8 lens, shoots RAW and well laid out controls. I did not even bother to look through the manual, the software is very intuitive.

I'll certainly ask if I can keep it, and if they need it back might even buy one.

One of my favorite photo blogs is by Michael Reichmann over at Luminous Landscapes. He gets his hands on pretty much every format of camera thats of interest to a serious photographer, check out what he has to say on the EX1 here .

The only downside to the camera at the moment is that the RAW files are not currently supported by lightroom the photo managment tool of choice made by Adobe. I hear though that they will be updating version 3 soon and that will change.

You can view a short VT and some more info via the Samsung site here

Here are some samples from the shoots.

Five new ads are about to be released in the UK for TNS featuring Jason's images.

Art directors at Bray Leino spent a couple of weeks with Jason going through various options from his stock library until the final five were chosen.
